GOOGLE set up the world's largest server farm in Malaysia

AVOS: Google Inc is interested to set up a base in Malaysia due to its huge ICT market, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The Prime Minister said the Government’s development plans for the ICT industry were also in line with the company’s expansion programme.

“I was told that Malaysians formed the highest group of Google users in South-East Asia,” he told Malaysian journalists after meeting the US giant’s CEO Eric Schmidt on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

It is believed the world’s top Internet search engine company was eyeing Malaysia, India or Vietnam to set up its data centre facilities.

Abdullah said the company felt Malaysia was a good place for the base due to its strategic geographical location.

“They want to make their presence felt in Malaysia. It will be a big boost for our ICT industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, the shift of economic power from the West to the East will be one of the key topics of discussion at the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Kuala Lumpur on June 15 and 16.

This historic transformation must be handled with care, said Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Isis) Malaysia chairman and CEO Datuk Seri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan.

He said this would ensure it could become a productive, constructive transformation.

The meeting will bring together over 350 global and regional leaders in business, politics and intellectual thinkers to discuss opportunities in Asia and the potential risks.

Car Insurance Claim Void.

I got this email from my friend. This is really a real case. Must be becareful when u go any car wash, don't simply put ur key to the guy (normally indian).

CAR INSURANCE CLAIM VOID...
PLEASE READ STORY. BEWARE !!!
This is a real story, my nephew told me, & I would like to share with all of you. Be careful, if u hv the habit of sending yr car for car wash or similar matter (car jockey etc) while in shopping complex...

Two weeks ago my nephew sent his Toyota Harrier for car wash in the car park of Bangsar Shopping Complex while he had an appointment there. He handed the car keys to the car wash people n left the car park for his appointment.

After the appointment he went to collect his car, & the car wash people told him that his car had been collected. How CAN??? After a prolonged argument without any results, he had no choice, but to make a police report... n follow up by insurance claim...

Insurance company rejected his claim 'cos the reason is the car was not stolen, the point of contention was why did he hand over the car keys to someone unknown, n why did he not wait there till the car washing was finished...???

So, be careful next time. If u really need to send yr car for car wash, better stay there and wait for yr car, if not, this may happen to you...

ALWAYS GET AN OFFICIAL RECIEPT LIKE YOU DO WHEN YOU SENT YOUR CAR FOR SERVICING AT HONDA, PROTON, TOYOTA... DON'T PLAY THE FOOL.

Pls forward this msg to your all your friends to warn all of them...

Three workers killed in flour factory tunnel blast

IPOH: Three labourers were killed in an explosion while carrying out welding works at a tunnel of a flour factory near Segari, about 15km from Lumut.
They are identified as Low Pin Tin, 53, from Sungai Pari Towers in Buntong, here, Mohd Faizul Mohd Said, 29, from Kg Tebok Yan in Segari, and Loh Lai Kiat, 51, from Sitiawan.
Manjung deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Rabawi Abd Jamil said the incident was believed to have been caused by a “gas explosion” during routine maintenance works yesterday.
The 2pm explosion occurred in the tunnel near a private jetty, which was connected to the Malayan Flour Mill Bhd by the 200m-long maintenance and transport tunnel.
DSP Ahmad Rabawi said one man died instantly inside the tunnel and the other two died at Manjung Hospital, about 90km from here.
“Four other workers suffered serious injuries at the jetty, including one who is now in the hospital’s intensive care unit,” he said.
The force of the explosion tore open the tunnel and split part of the jetty.
Manjung Fire and Rescue Department senior assistant officer Jaafar Sidek said 33 fire fighters rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call at 2.16pm from a member of the public.
“There was no fire and no smoke when we rushed there, but people were panicking. So we took steps to ensure safety,” he said.
Jaafar confirmed that there were no other victims, adding that the department was still investigating the cause.
Lumut MP Datuk Kong Cho Ha, who visited the victims at the Manjung Hospital, said this was the worst accident ever to be experienced by Malayan Flour Mill.
“The factory, set up in 1965, has always had a pretty good track record of safety,” he told reporters.
“I hope the authorities will quickly look into the cause of the accident, including the possibility of bringing in the Chemistry Department to assist them.”

Google to Invest in Undersea Cable

Google, SingTel, and others to build submarine cable

Web search company Google has agreed to build an undersea cable with five telecommunications operators that will link the United States to Japan, and provide the capacity to sustain a surge in Internet traffic between the continents. Google and the five telecommunications companies said in a joint statement that the 6,200-mile undersea fiber-optic cable, connecting the United States to Japan, will cost $300 million. Google's partners in the consortium, dubbed Unity, comprises Bharti Airtel, Global Transit, KDDI, Pacnet, and SingTel.

The cable will provide much-needed capacity to sustain unprecedented growth in data and Internet traffic between Asia and the United States. "The Unity cable system allows the members of the consortium to provide the increased capacity needed as more applications and services migrate online," said Jayne Stowell, a spokeswoman for the consortium. The consortium said it has picked NEC and Tyco Telecommunications to construct and install the system, which is expected to be ready for service in the first quarter of 2010.
